Volcano Climb

Have you ever climbed a volcano before? Do you want to?

Climbing to the crater of Tavuvur takes roughly 45 min – 1 hour to the summit. A reasonable level of fitness and mobility is required to do this climb as there are many uneven surfaces and loose gravel all the way to the top. Good shoes, a hat and sunscreen are required.

Itinerary

Duration: 3-5 hours

Day 1: Rabaul

It is preferred to get to the base of the volcano no later than 630 am to beat the heat. Your South Sea Horizons Guide will meet you at your desired pick up point at 530 if you are travelling from Kokopo or 6 if you are leaving from Rabaul.

We will see the hot springs on our way to the summit. At the top of Tavurvur, you will have a spectacular view across Blanch Bay and Simpson Harbour.

When we return down to the base there are opportunities for you to purchase eggs to cook in the natural hot springs before we head back to your hotel.
